Nigeria Commences Importation Of Ice-Block From Niger

Residents  of  Katsina metropolis  especially owners of businesses requiring refrigeration, now travel to neighbouring Niger Republic to purchase ice blocks.

Although Nigeria supplies the bulk of electricity used in Niger Republic, residents of Katsina have for months been experiencing acute power supply where it is now rare to have uninterrupted power supply for at least 30 minutes.

A Fura and cold water vendor along IBB Way, Katsina, Uztaz Muhammad Umar said that he travelled from Katsina to Maradi in Niger Republic to buy the ice blocks he uses for his business so as to preserve his goods.

He noted that the huge special ice block made for sale to Nigerians cost between N300 to N500 adding "we use to wrap it in a rag or a special leather bag to prevent it from melting. We thank God that we have Niger Republic closer, otherwise we would have left this business for long".

... Well what can i say... but wait a minute, is ice-block not supposed to be a contraband product too...? lolzz just kidding, man must survive...

Sophia Grace Brownlee "Nicki Minaj Moment 4 Life"
Dapo Torimiro

Dapo Torimiro a Nigerian from Lagos state, may not be well known to a lot of Nigerians, but in the international music industry, he is a highly sought commodity. Some of his famous patrons include;  John LegendBrandyDavid ArchuletaJordin SparksJustin BieberToni BraxtonJesse McCartneyStacy BartheDemi Lovato.

He also recently produced a song for UK based/ American rave internet sensation kids - Sophie and Gracie. The song was Grace's version of "Nicki Minaj Moment 4 Life".

Dapo Torimiro has worked in the music industry in the U.S. for several years writing and producing music for artists' album projects, touring with numerous artists, as well as scoring various television and film projects. He is based in Los Angeles, CA.

Dapo's first break was placing the song "Quickly" on five-time Grammy winner John Legend's third studio album, Evolver, which was released in Fall of 2008. Featuring multi-platinum-selling artist Brandy, "Quickly" received early industry buzz as not only an inspired, sleek duet featuring R&B/pop music's leading artists, but also as one of the album's stand-out gems. Later in the Fall of 2008, Dapo also enjoyed credit for other tracks, including "Running" on David Archuleta's self-titled debut album (November 11, 2008) -- his first since becoming runner-up on American Idol in June 2008—and "Torn Down" from Brandy's highly-anticipated album, Human (December 9, 2008), which she describes as her most personal album to date. Dapo teamed up with the award-winning production duo Midi Mafia (50 Cent, Fantasia) in Los Angeles to collaborate on various projects. In the Spring of 2009, Dapo received songwriter and producer credit for the tracks "Know Better", "Apart From Me", and "This Step Alone" on Fight for Love, the second album by American Idol Season 5 finalist Elliott Yamin, which was released on May 5, 2009. He also received credit for "Forever in You", which was included on the album as an iTunes and Japan bonus track.

Dapo is a Yamaha-endorsed artist.[1] Dapo worked with two-time Grammy-winning producer Jeffrey Weber to record a song for Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign called "Change".

Dapo worked with American Idol winner and Grammy-nominated artist Jordin Sparks on her second album Battlefield on the track titled "No Parade". Dapo wrote and produced the track "No Parade" along with Oscar-nominated songwriting duo Scott Cutler and Anne Preven. "Listen", is sung by Beyoncé Knowles in the 2006 film Dreamgirls. Early reviews of the album have generally been positive with most critics highlighting individual tracks such as "No Parade", which is described as 'breaking your heart even before she gets to the bruising chorus.'.[2]

Dapo was announced as one of the songwriters for the hit Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam along with Kara DioGuardi and others.[3] (Dapo co-wrote, produced and mixed "Fire" performed by Matthew "Mdot" Finley.)

On October 30, 2009, Atlantic Records announced that Dapo will be one of the producers personally chosen by Grammy Award-winning R&B singer Toni Braxton to work on her highly anticipated label debut album (Pulse) to be released February 2, 2010.[4][5]

Dapo co-wrote and produced the track "Bigger" on Canadian singer Justin Bieber's first part of his two-part debut studio album, My World, which was released on November 17, 2009, viaIsland Records. The second part of the album, My World 2.0, on which Dapo co-wrote and produced the track "Overboard" (a duet featuring Jessica Jarrell), was released on March, 23 2010 and debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200.[6] In less than one month of release, the first part of the album was certified Gold in the United States by the RIAA, and in less than two months (January 8, 2010), it was certified Platinum in the United States, by the RIAA[7] selling over one million copies.

Channeling his jazz roots, Dapo produced and recorded songs with Tony Award-winning singer/actress, Anika Noni Rose for Disney's album, The Princess and The Frog: Tiana and Her Princess Friends.[8] The album is inspired by the 2009 Disney animated film The Princess and the Frog and was released on November 24, 2009. The album is the follow-up release in the successful Disney 'And Friends' musical series and features the song "Down in New Orleans" performed by Anika Noni Rose as written by Academy Award-winning composer Randy Newman and produced by Dapo Torimiro. In another Princess and the Frog-inspired album, Bayou Boogie (Release date 3/16/10), Dapo wrote and produced two songs: "Everyday Princess" and "Sing Away Your Blues", both performed by Anika Noni Rose (as Princess Tiana).

Dapo was a featured performer on stage with Andrea Bocelli and David Foster on the PBS Great Performances special, "Andrea Bocelli & David Foster: My Christmas." The special debuted on Thanksgiving night 2009 with additional broadcasts through the month of December.

Nairaland; Largest Forum In Africa - Worth Over N200m

N/L Boss Goes From Broke In 2005 To Multi-millionaire In 2012
Nairaland founder, Seun Osewa
To the over 800,000 members of his forum, the smart and hard working founder of Nairaland is simply known as Seun. But to the search engines and online community at large, he is a global force to reckon with. As a result of a project he started in 2005 because in his own words "it was the cheapest project i could afford" Nairaland has since grown beyond the subsistence expectations of its humble founder and is now by far the most successful online forum to come out of Nigerian soil and by implication African soil. Currently Nairaland boasts an alexa traffic rating of 1,885 with its closest rival - Naijapals, coming a distant 7,134.

To think that as at 2005 Seun Osewa's dream was to have an online business that could pay him at least N65,000 a month and to compare that expectation with his current reality, is to bear testimony to the growing power of the internet. The amount of power and possibility Seun wields right now can only be imagined. The young man has indeed become an institution.

Thousands of persons and businesses within and outside Nigeria wake up to do business each day on the platform of Naira Land. Not to talk of the countless number of blogs and sites that rely on nairaland for content and traffic. Even though Nairaland is the second most visited site in Nigeria after Vangaurd News site, it unarguably wields far much more influence on no less an audience than the youths who will grow up relying on Nairaland.

Except he does a st**pid thing like dating Cossy Ejiorkor, Seun Osewa will certainly become a phenomenon to reckon with in Nigeria, and a voice for Africa in the global Arena.

Something You Should Know About Ash Wednesday

By: David Ngwaba

Ash Wednesday usually ushers in the lent season. Lent begins today and is observed for 40 days before the Easter celebrations. As a kid my impression about ash Wednesday was that it was a day when every one should be covered in ash. In northern Nigeria where i grew up, ash Wednesday generally occurred in the dry season, so generally most of my play mates looked ash from dirt, unwittingly collaborating my theory.

I grew up in a Pentecostal background, so you may understand my misconceptions about ash Wednesday's, and the lent season which as a kid i assumed was a period of lenty sunny days. You may not find me in church by 6: Am on an ash Wednesday waiting to have the sign of the cross engraved on my forehead by the priest, marking the commencement of the lent season. But neither do i disapprove of fasting for forty days and forty nights in the lent season. I also do not disprove of  ash Wednesdays, i simply regard it as a religious expression and the observation of the lent season, i regard lent as an essential time to re dedicate to God. The timing itself is uncanny. At the beginning of the year - What better time to spend time at lent with God?

For Nigeria and indeed Africa, Christians observing the lent season should use this time as an opportunity to invoke Gods presence into the affairs of this country. Nigeria has now more than ever been through the most trying time of its  young socio-cultural cum political  history. At this point, it is only God that can take us to the next level.

The situation is no less grave in the international scene at a time when all we here is news of wars and rumors of wars, famine, plagues, natural disasters, etc, kind of reminds you of the biblical prophecy of the signs of the end times.

The end is near and we don't even know it.... kind of what comes to mind when you consider the manner in which humanity is going about its existence. Celebrities leading the way in public nudity, immorality and violence. Incest becoming common news, greed on the increase, so also betrayals and hatred among siblings.

Surely there are so much more reasons why these years ash Wednesday should be observed with gravity, likewise the lent season.

Policeman killed as he attempts to defuse bomb in Kaduna

Remains of the officer.

A Nigerian bomb disposal police officer was on Tuesday killed when an explosive device he was trying to defuse went off, a police spokesperson has said.

The device was wrapped in a carrier bag and hidden behind an electricity pole in the residential area of Ungwar Sarki in the northern city of Kaduna.

A BBC correspondent at the scene says the police bomb squad was called in by members of the Nigerian army at a nearby check point, to look into the contents of the specious leather bag in which the explosives were packed, after reports of a first explosion.

No-one has claimed responsibility for planting the devices.

Nigeria Budget, DPR Jobs To Gulp N31bn - 2012 (N27m Per Staff)

Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke, Nigeria's minister for Petroleum

If you are a staff of Nigeria's DPR (Department Of Petroleum Resources)
then you must be very rich or at least that is what the departments 2012
budget proposal suggests. Talk about the richest jobs in Nigeria.

In the budget defense senate hearing the DPR team led by
Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke, made a presentation that indicated
that of the N35bn requested by DPR, only a measly N4bn is to be
expended on capital expenditure while a bulk N31bn was to be spent on
servicing the jobs of the 1,100 personnel under its employ. At that rate,
each of the jobs under the employ of DPR will cost N27m to
 maintain in 2012 alone.

In an industry that is capital very capital intensive it is kind of absurd
that the policy makers are more concerned with their job pay.
The minister even further stated that the same obtains in other
 government ministries.

Whatever the case lets look on the bright side, DPR is actually
preparing to create over 200 new jobs for 2012. So if you wouldn't
mind N27m per year then you better dust up your CV. lolzzzzz...

On the part of Government, we are taking several measures aimed at cutting the size and cost of governance, including on-going and continuous effort to reduce the size of our recurrent expenditure and increase capital spending. In this regard, I have directed that overseas travels by all political office holders, including the President, should be reduced to the barest minimum. Rap star Rick Ross had cancelled his performance at the annual Calabar festival
Ross’ reps told hip hop news website Allhiphop.com that the Nigerian show has been cancelled due to ‘unfulfilled contractual obligations’.
The reps denied the Maybach Music Group (MMG) boss’ health was the reason behind the latest cancellation. Ross was forced to cancel several shows in October due to a pair of seizure attacks.

"My goals for 2012 are simple -- continue to live a healthy lifestyle by eating nutritious foods and exercising regularly. The tools and support that the Weight Watchers Pointsplus program provides has helped me do that, and has given me the opportunity to really make a difference. I am a true advocate for living a healthy lifestyle, and I hope to set an example that inspires others to make the same changes that I did. If I can do it, anyone can!
Nice one sister. Am sure every lady out there will be eager to know Jennifer Hudson's slimming formula.
Well, while fitness is of importance, it is also paramount that we see to the fitness of our strategies for the new year. For us in Nigeria, when the fuel subsidy does come, as it is eminent, how prepared shall we be to take advantage of the opportunities. Remember their will be a windfall which the government will want to circulate as a compensation for the pain caused.
What developments are we to look forward to in year 2012? from such events as the recent lunch of the nig com sat xr for communication purposes, how do you intend to take advantage? are you already thinking of setting up a commercial presence online? if not why not. It takes less capital, more result. Soon internet will be like GSM to Nigerians.
In your work place, how are you strategising? however you wish to, remember patience and loyalty to the RELEVANT authority are your best weapon.
