Whitney Houston dead: Bobby Brown 'beside himself'

Whitney Houston's ex-husband, Bobby Brown, father of their child, Bobbi Kristina, was reportedly "beside himself" Saturday after hearing that his ex-wife had died.

"He was sobbing, and by the end of the call, I was sobbing, too," a family member told People after Brown was called with the news. "He's beside himself right now."

The couple divorced in 2007. Houston was found unresponsive in a room at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday, and despite 20 minutes of CPR was declared dead about 4 p.m.

The singer was found unresponsive at the Beverly Hilton hours before Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy Awards party. Once a ruler of the pop charts,  Whitney Houston had seen addiction take a toll on her success.

The singer was found dead at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, where she was most likely due to attend the annual Clive Davis Grammy party being held at the hotel.

According to celebrity website TMZ the singer was found in a bath tub and prescription drugs were in the room. An autopsy will establish whether she drowned, whether drugs were involved, or whether there was another cause. Suicide may not be completely ruled out according to authorities.
