Detained Boko Haram spokesman Abu Quqa has told State Security Service (SSS) officials that the boko haram members who carry out suicide bombings do not volunteer to do so, they are usually chosen by the leadership. Once chosen death for the person chosen is certain. If the member carries out the act he is considered as having died with honour, if the member refuses to carry out the act, he will be killed by the leadership and regarded as a shame to the brotherhood.
According to Abu Quqa, “What was bad about those handpicked for the suicide mission was that all of them were non-Kanuri. They were always Chadians, Nigeriens, Camerounians, Hausa, Fulani and others.
“No Kanuri. That was why some of us had divided opinion on it.”
